Popcorn Terminology

Acre - a unit of land containing 4,840 sq. yards (about the size of a football field)

Bushel - a unit of dry measurement used for grains, equivalent to 2150 cubic inches

Bees wings - at the tip of the kernel tiny flecks stick to the sides of packages.

CAMP MASTERS - the highest quality & taste gourmet popcorn sold for fund raising.

Corn Oil - the liquid product extracted from the germ of a kernel of corn

Ethanol Fuel - the alcohol produced from the starch portion of corn

Kernel - a grain or seed of corn

'Mushrooms' are nearly round and 'Butterflies' are pronged and branched and very irregular normally used by vendors.

Old maids - kernels that remain at the bottom of the kettle that did not pop - these should not be reused.

Pearls  'Pearls' have round crowns and are short and thick. (also see Rice)

Rice - 'Rice' are long kernels with a pointed crown (also see Pearls)

Sweetner - a product derived fro the starch portion of a kernel of corn
